Aidha

Non-profit Organizations

An award-winning NPO from Singapore which provides financial literacy for MDWs and local low-income women

About us

Aidha provides financial literacy programmes such as money management, computer literacy, leadership and entrepreneurial skills for migrant domestic workers (MDWs) and lower-income women. We believe in ‘sustainable futures through financial education’ and that every woman should have the opportunity and choice to determine her own future. With every Aidha student sharing her skills with her family and friends, a whole community benefits, making the multiplier effect of our financial literacy programme significant and life-changing. Our impact studies show that by educating one woman, we can help impact nine lives. How to get involved? Our volunteers are drawn from all walks of life and professions, you can find them mentoring a class on Sunday, supporting our campus management staff during the week, or taking on fundraising and research work. Join us at our volunteer orientation and you may register here: https://bit.ly/2Mxjyct To learn more, please visit our website www.aidha.org. For any media enquiries, please connect to @Amirah Ali.

We are happy to share that Synpulse has donated over 20 laptops to non-profit organisations Aidha and MMPower Foundation, as part of our CSR efforts in #Singapore! Aidha empowers migrant domestic workers and lower-income women through sustainable wealth creation. Our laptops will support students enrolled in their Essential Computer Skills class at their main campus. MMPower Foundation is making a difference by up-skilling Myanmar & Cambodian children with free computer training programs. The donated laptops will be used in a new computer training facility in a small village in Cambodia, set to open later this year, helping to break the cycle of poverty. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to these incredible organisations and their missions. 💻✨ We look forward to working with more organisations like these to help communities thrive. Still in the spirit of Mother’s Day, yesterday marked the completion of Essential Computer Skills course at Aidha . Aidha's mission is to empower Singapore’s migrant domestic workers through education. I have been taking part in Aidha’s coaching for the last three months thanks to Melissa Aratani Kwee 's encouragement. Initially, I thought that I helped the students by coaching them. Instead, I am the one who is inspired by them. Their examples put me to shame. These foreign domestic workers left their own countries for Singapore to provide a better future for their children. Some had not seen their children for quite a while. Other ladies from Indonesia shared with me that, apart from attending Aidha courses and working full time as domestic workers, they are also studying at Universitas Terbuka (Open University) to complete their bachelor’s degree in business and English Literature. Describing these women as having excellent time management skills would be an understatement. One survey stated that domestic workers in Singapore could work between 14-16 hours, six days a week. I don’t know how they can find time to do all of this. Jingjin Liu was right when she said women cannot “have it all.” Yet these women, despite their circumstances, are "giving their all" and even more. Happy Mother’s Day to all female domestic workers in Singapore. Thank you for all your sacrifices. May all your wishes and dreams for your children come true. #womensupportingwomen #femaleempowerment #servantleadership #genderequality #inspirationalwomen #mothersday

Catapult was honored last week to receive a certificate for corporate and social excellence at a Recognition Ceremony by The American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore (AmCham Singapore) for the work we do with Aidha The charity helps migrant domestic workers and low-income women in Singapore learn money management, computer skills and communication. Our VP of Business Development Victoria Great received the recognition alongside Jacqueline Loh and Kiran Sekhon - thank you for your partnership. We're happy to open our doors on the weekend for these women who work tirelessly to provide for their families, and dedicate their rest days to learning/upskilling. Their determination exemplifies true leadership and we're proud to support them. At the end of the day, our space is only as impressive as what fills it. #Leadership #AmChamCARES

Heading up a region, travelling for work and raising a three-year-old boy – how do you do it?! Is a question I often get. And my answer is - I don’t do it alone...   Alongside a very supportive husband, there is another person in my life that enables me to balance work, motherhood and time for myself. Her name is Sandee. She is defined in Singapore as a ‘foreign domestic helper’ but I’d say a description closer to ‘Superhero' is more appropriate. She has played a key role in my son’s life and is deeply loved by him. She has also been key in my own recovery from post-partum anxiety. She helps to run our house, look after my son, and laugh with me about life. She is truly a blessing and I don’t know what I would do without her.    But I am deeply aware that, in order to play this role for my family, she has had to temporarily leave hers behind in the Philippines. And so where I can, I want to make sure that her time with us not only provides her with a salary but also a chance to enhance her skills in ways that will serve her longer-term. That’s how I came across Aidha .    It’s a charity set up to support the foreign domestic helper community achieve economic independence through financial, communication and entrepreneurship education. It’s mission is to set these women up with the skills they need to have a lasting positive impact on their families and communities – making sure they don’t get left behind while helping to support other people.    As part of my annual TEAM LEWIS Foundation donation, I am delighted to be able to support Aidha and the work it does. Thank you Reuben Yuvaraj, Samuel Dean and Chris Lewis 罗可思 for all your work as part of the foundation. Learn more about Aidha here: https://aidha.org/
